Snow and Shuttle

February 2nd, 2015

Rochester Community Schools have canceled school again for Tuesday, February 3rd.  In accordance with our snow policy, we, too, will cancel our morning classes.  However, since the brave soul that’s working in the store already knows she can get out of her driveway, she’ll be opening the store at 9:30 as scheduled.  The 1:30pm, 5pm, and 7pm classes will run as scheduled.

Also, the shuttle bus has started running in downtown!  You can pick it up at the temporary parking lot, located on the NE corner of Water and 3rd Streets, and it’ll run a continuous loop down the East Alley (that means you can get dropped off right at the shop!).  At this time, the shuttle runs from 8:30 in the morning until 6:30 in the evening, Monday through Saturday.

Yuck. Snow.

February 1st, 2015

By now you all must know that we’re getting hit hard with snow today. There are already hundreds of school closings for tomorrow, Feb 2nd, in anticipation of bad roads and dangerously low wind chills. In accordance with our snow policy, that means we’re at least closed for the morning.

HOWEVER, we also have to take into consideration the parking situation. While the shuttle is supposed to start running tomorrow, we don’t have any details yet so it’s not fair to rely on it to keep everyone safe. Also, it’s going to take a long time to get all this snow cleared out of Rochester so that parking is at least back to our new “normal.”

For that reason, and to keep our team members and our customers safe, it just seems right to close for the entire day. We truly hope you’ll understand and will come see us later in the week. Don’t forget – Knit Michigan is next weekend and we WILL be there with all sorts of new yarns to unveil.

Please stay home, off the roads and out of the cold, and be safe. We’ll see you soon.

It’s a Special Kind Of Sunday!

January 24th, 2015

It’s the first year that I can remember the weather being good for the Fire & Ice Festival in Downtown Rochester. Every year, either it’s too warm and we have to move it, or it’s too cold for anyone to come out. This year… It’s about perfect.

If you’re not sure what the Festival is, let me just sum it up… Outdoor activities. It’s a phenomenal family event, that is centered around enjoying Michigan’s winter activities. There’s a tube run down 3rd Street, and ice skating rink, dog sledding (be sure to pet those sweet puppies for me!), a fire pit for roasting marshmallows and building s’mores, ice sculptures, and so much more. And the best part? There’s no admission charge!!

Oh, but wait… it gets better. Because the weather is SO good, and because I have the most wonderful team in the world, we’re going to be OPEN ON SUNDAY, January 25th! That’s right – you can come down, enjoy the festivities, AND visit your favorite yarn shop on SUNDAY. We’ll be opening the doors at 10am and will remain open until 3pm. We hope you’ll stop in and say hello, tell us all about your downtown adventures, warm up, and see all the exciting new yarns that haven’t even been announced in the newsletter yet. Woo-hoo! So much fun!

Don’t want to try to park downtown? That’s ok, too. Head over to Buffalo Wild Wings at Livernois and Walton. There’s a free shuttle that’ll bring you straight downtown. It runs in a continuous loop, so you won’t have to wait too long. The bus starts running at 10am.

Happy knitting!

Parking Platform

January 7th, 2015

As you may have heard, work on the new parking platform behind Skeins has begun. The parking lot is now fenced off. As an alternative, please park in the small lot between ours and the Elevator, the lot behind Sergeant Appliance (north of University), or the lot behind O’Connor’s (south of Fourth). There is also parking on the street.  The City has promised us a shuttle bus, hopefully starting soon - we’ll keep you updated on that.  In the meantime, bundle up and we’ll have the heat on.  Hot coffee, too!  :)
