What's New

40 is the new 21

March 6th, 2010
Hi, everyone!  I’m writing to you from down in sunny Nashville, Tennessee with a couple of important updates.

First, an addition to our fabulous newsletter and class list.  Christa Newhouse will also be teaching a brioche scarf class on Friday, March 19 from 6-9pm.  But this is no basic brioche class.  When Christa teaches brioche you’ll also learn to cable using this  beautiful stitch.  Before enrolling, you should know how to cast on, knit, and purl.  Cable experience is also helpful but not required.  Call and make your reservation now.  At a price of only $35, this one always fills up fast!

So…  Why am I in Nashville and what does it mean for you?  Well, first of all, it means the store is a lot quieter and more peaceful!  Smile emoticon  They say 40 is the new 20.  Let’s just say I’m celebrating turning 20.  I like to say 21, though.   Really, 20 is pushing it a little and I’m trying to keep it real.

The way I see it, if I get to celebrate, you should, too.  So here’s how it’ll work.  All day Saturday, March 6th, all yarn (not including sale yarn) will be marked down 21%.  Purchase as much as you want at 21% off.  When you get to the counter, choose one ball of yarn that’ll be marked down to 40% (we need to have a little taste of reality in there, right?).

Have fun!

Lori

Feature of the Week - 3/1/10 - 3/6/10

March 2nd, 2010

Wondering what our feature for this week will be?  Keep your peepers peeled - we’ll be announcing it later in the week.  But here’s a hint… Lori is turning 21 this week, so it may have something to do with that….

New Arrivals!

February 12th, 2010

This has been an exciting week, and next week brings even more fun.  This week we’ve received a large order of Berocco’s Comfort yarn - a washable, dryable synthetic that feels amazing!  If you like Encore, you’ll LOVE Comfort!  It’s only $5.75 for 215 yards, too!  That’s a little less than Encore per yard.

We’ve also received (and put on the shelf) a new shipment of beads from Deanna, not to mention two new scarf patterns.  If you love beads, now is the best selection.  We currently have about 30 different colors of beads in-stock, and have even added to our selection of drop beads.  Enjoy!

Next week brings one of my favorite new items this year.  We’ll be receiving several new sock yarns, but also new Sock Yarn Balloon Animals.  Without going into great detail, you knit (and stuff as you go) a long tube.  Then you twist it around like a balloon animal, and voila!  You’ll get one of several different animals.  The pattern kit is $19.95 but contains many different animals to choose from.  We’ll have the yarn for all of them, too.  You really have to see these little guys to believe it.  This is one of the most creative, fun things I’ve seen hit the market in a while.   They’re just very unique and they’ll be great fun to make.  I can’t wait to start mine!

In that same shipment we will be receiving about 10-12 colors of mohair in a #2 weight.  This yarn is identical to Rowan’s Kid Silk Haze (from the same mill and everything), but from a different company.  You’ll love the colors!  Make sure you check out our smocked scarf pattern (free with purchase) that calls for mohair and another yarn.  It’s never too soon to start knitting for this year’s Holiday season!

While our new process for sending newsletters seems to be getting them to most, a few people have still commented on not receiving the newsletter.  If you’re one of those people, please take a moment to check your junk email folder on your computer.  There’s a chance your computer just isn’t intelligent enough to realize how incredibly important, useful, and entertaining our newsletters can be and is actually considering them to be (gasp!) spam!  Can you imagine?  But unfortunately it happens…

If you’re new to Skeins On Main and would like to begin receiving our newsletters, or even if you’re not new and you’ve found that your computer isn’t hiding them from you and they were never received, please follow this link to sign up:  http://lists.skeinsonmain.com/mailman/listinfo/newsletter   You should start receiving it with the next newsletter, which generally comes out during the first few days of the month and is filled with information about what’s going on in the store, which events are coming up, and how to get involved both in the store AND in our community projects.
