Our Policies (updated 4/28/2023)

The Most Important:  ENJOY YOURSELF!  Our attitude is, “If you’re not having fun doing it, why are you doing it?” and we apply that to working in the store and being there, too.  We have a lot of fun doing the things we’re doing, and we invite you to enjoy it, too.  Please relax and be yourself.   If you have a question, don’t be afraid to ask.  If you have a suggestion, please don’t be afraid to share it.  We love to hear your comments and most of all, we love to hear you laugh.

Sitting and Knitting:  We encourage you to come into the store to sit and knit whenever you have some time and would like to join us.  We have multiple class tables where you can sit, relax, enjoy conversation with a friend or one of our friendly team members, and knit or crochet.  If you'd like to meet new friends without joining a class, we have open knit/crochet/craft sessions on Monday evenings from 7-9pm, and on Saturdays from 9:30am until noon (or so).  We'll supply coffee, water, and a place to sit - you supply the conversation and the laughs.  Please note that no instruction is provided during open knit/crochet/craft sessions.

Classes:
For four-week classes, registration is for the same day, time, and planned to be the same instructor each week.  We're unable to offer make-up classes out of fairness to the other students in each class. All classes must be paid upon registering. No exceptions can be made. In the event you need to cancel your class registration, you may receive a full refund if cancelling at least one week prior to the start of class. No refunds can be made after that time.  Any time we need to cancel a class due to unforeseen circumstances, a makeup date will be offered. Substitutes for instructors may be made without prior notice without being subject to refunds.

We offer something most other stores don’t.  At Skeins, class attendees are not required to use materials from the store.  Need something wound but didn’t buy it from us?  That’s no problem, either. We'll set you up at our self-winding station, get you started on the first hank, and you can take all the time you need.  We're extremely careful when winding yarn, but sometimes things can happen. We'll gladly wind yarn purchased from us at no additional charge, but we're unable to accept responsibility if your yarn gets tangled. Should that happen, and we're unable to untangle it within a few minutes, we'll either tie up the remaining portion so it doesn't get worse as you travel with it, or we'll allow you work on it yourself from our swift.

Returns:  We happily accept exchanges on any fiber that is brought back to us within sixty days, unwound and free of damage, scents, or pet fur and with its original label intact, for store credit. Classes may be canceled for a full refund at least one week prior to the start of class. Books, patterns and tea are non-refundable.  Needles may be exchanged within two weeks of original purchase. Notions may be exchanged within thirty days if unopened.

Snow Days: If Rochester schools are closed due to snow or an overnight ice storm, we'll cancel any and all 9:30am classes and plan to open late.  While we love what we do, the safety of our customers and team members is the most important thing to us.  If classes need to be canceled during the day, students will be contacted via email with as much notice as possible and closures will be posted on the website and on Facebook.  In the event of weather developing during the day, we’ll respond in the same way - we'll call/email classes and post early closures on Facebook.  When in doubt, always feel free to give us a shout at 248.656.9300.  Any cancelled classes will be offered a makeup session.
